Three to five weeks to go

Every day I count my blessings that we received the referral for Jaden, and that we are so close to traveling (3-5 weeks!) to pick him up. The situation with Vietnam adoptions seems to be getting worse and worse. The orphanage that our agency works with was required to put a “temporary stop to handing over of children to adoptive parents.” This means there will likely be no more referrals for waiting families before September 1st, when Vietnam is expected to cease further adoptions with U.S. families. Worse yet, this also means a referral that was already made to a family at our agency was “put on hold”. The family already had their flights booked and were well on their way to holding their child for the first time, when that dream was ripped apart. I cannot imagine how they are feeling right now. I don’t even want to think about that possibility. My heart goes out to everyone still waiting for referrals from Vietnam, especially those who are most affected by this seemingly impossible, horrific situation. The families at our agency have requested a conference call, which will take place this evening, to ask questions and try to make sense out of it all.  I will probably participate because, as you probably already know, we would like to adopt two children and up until now Vietnam was still a potential country to work with. I say “up until now” because if things continue to go in the direction they have been heading, I’d have to give a lot of thought to whether or not it is worth the risk with Vietnam, or if it would be better to start over somewhere else. 

The process with Korea has been moving so smoothly it is almost like a dream. I keep saying my prayers that it will continue to go this well, and that we’ll have Jaden home within a month or so.  Anyone who would like to pray with me, please feel free! :-)

Now the humorous part of this whole thing is that the proud grandma’s and godmother are putting together a baby shower for me in September.  Originally we thought we weren’t traveling until November, so there would be plenty of time, right?!! Not quite! Our possible travel dates moved to October, then September, and now we’re looking at the first week of September as a possible travel week. Wouldn’t it be fun if we traveled from 8/29 to 9/5 and then had the shower on 9/6????!!! Awesome!!!! Can you say “tired and cranky?”

Speaking of which, I’ll post next about our trip to the Statue of Liberty this past Saturday!
